A new Shah for Iran? May 1, 2006

Different River has posted an interview with Reza Pahlavi, son of the late Shah of Iran.  The overthrow of the Shah’s regime and the subsequent rise to power of the hard-line mullahtocracy is directly attributable to Jimmah-worst-president-in-U.S.-history-Carter – there is speculation that he tried to get financial favors for his friends, and when that didn’t work, he was determined to see the Shah removed from power.

Here’s a small excerpt, go read the whole thing at Different River for the rest and commentary:

Human Events has a fascinating interview with Reza Pahlavi, son of the late (and deposed) Shah of Iran. The Shah was deposed in 1979, in a revolution that brought the current Islamic/totalitarian regime to power. Here’s what he has to say:

Reza Pahlavi, son of the late Shah of Iran, told the editors of Human Events last week that in the next two to three months he hopes to finalize the organization of a movement aimed at overthrowing the Islamic regime in Tehran and replacing it with a democratic government.

He believes the cause is urgent because of the prospect that Iran may soon develop a nuclear weapon or the U.S. may use military force to preempt that. He hopes to offer a way out of this dilemma: a revolution sparked by massive civil disobedience in which the masses in the streets are backed by elements of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, said he has been in contact with elements of the Revolutionary Guard that would be willing to play such a role, and activists who could help spark the civil disobedience.

The interview is a must-read.  He goes on to talk about his views on Israel (he doesn’t see Israel as a threat to anyone) and his view that a new Iranian constitution must be based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Reading the interview, I am hopeful that there may be a solution to the situation in Iran.  However, if there really is a movement afoot to overthrow the current regime, what would be the purpose of publicizing it now?  I don’t believe that Ahmadinejad is going to soften his stance because of the threat of revolution, if that’s what they’re hoping by releasing it now.  If anything, I think that if he suspects there really is a plot to overthrow him in the works, he’ll just clamp down harder & become more unstable than he already is.

Iran Threatened Israel.

Iran said if we (The United States) did any kind of “evil” act against them, that they would attack Israel.
